Dolby vision issue on ATV4K 2017

Dolby vision issue on ATV4K 2017 (1st gen atv4K)


I was watching Moana2 on Disney+ and suddenly my tv went basically full black on a scene and inverted on another scene…


I tried other Dolby vision content and no issues, tried 4K hdr same thing, 1080p hdr and Dolby, once again same issue.

tried all configuration in my tv, issue still persist.

what is weird it’s I can reproduce with that specific scene on demand…

only SDR can resolve that…

I’m not gonna play my content in SDR if I pay for Dolby vision content :/ that a bummer.

Anyone have an idea or live the same thing?

yeah my tv is Dolby vision, haven’t had any issues since 2022 now, and before I had only HDR content which I never had any issues tho.

But as asked previously, have you updated the tvOS to its latest version? Such updates not only contain new features and enhancements but also include bug fixes.


The issue might also be caused by a failing or failed hardware component within the device itself. If a software update doesn't fix the issue have the device examined by at an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

my tv is okay with Dolby vision content, I tried other and tried that specific scene as well and everything is fine tv side… it’s just my ATV… I think I’ll need to get the 2022, but since I’ve find some other that had this issue even with the 2022 model… and the workaround was HDR… I just don’t understand why now… and only with one movie for now. Encanto Dolby vision is perfect as Dune p1–p2 or Avatar…

My DolbyVision TV has no update and my ATK4k is on 18.3.

Moana2 is the only Dolby vision movie that I have this issue…

my ATV is streaming like 7days a week and 14h per days… Dolby vision content is like 6hr a day… no issue elsewhere for now.

If the issue is with only that one particular movie then it would appear the fault lies within that movie and not a general hardware problem. But that's only a guess on my part as it's something I've never come across.


If it starts to occur with other movies as well then I'd suspect a developing hardware problem and should be looked into.
