How do I reset password on locked Mac with AZERTY keyboard?

My computer is locked and when I enter my password it says it’s incorrect. That on its own is weird because I know that is the correct password, even so I then go to reset password and I am stuck on ABC- AZERTY which I believe is the French keyboard. If I go to other input sources and change it ,it just defaults back to AZERTY. Because I am locked out I have very limited controls o can actually do. The problem with AZERTY is that I can’t find the @ symbol anywhere which means I can’t enter in my email to reset my password . Shift 2 comes out as regular 2 and 2 by itself is é. Other problems include a=q and m = ,
