Desktop folder files disappeared

Hi everybody,

Suddenly all my files at the desktop disappeared after I turned on the Stage Manager and turning it off or changing the settings in desktops & docks did not bring it back. The desktop folder continues to be empty. However the files and folders that are in the desktop are still findable through the search function in the finder. If I click on show on enclosing folder it even manages to show it in the desktop. However it is kind of light themed and disappears after I reopen on desktop (see screenshots).

I already updated to the newest software macOS 15.3.2. I also relaunched the finder and my Mac. Nothing helped so far :(

Thank you all for your help in advance.

It seems that your Desktop files have become hidden for some reason.

With the window for the Desktop folder open, as above, press Command-Shift-period

This will show the hidden files in grey.

Are they showing now (albeit in grey)?

If the answer is yes, then run this command in Terminal to make them visible again:

chflags nohidden ~/Desktop/*
