How do I stop iCloud syncing on a deceased family member's iPad?

Good morning. This is actually a question I’m asking for my parents.

my father recently passed away and I inherited his iPad. He and my mom had some items synced between their respective devices (pages, numbers etc), but I am now looking to restore dads iPad to factory settings for use in our household.

If I just restore to factory settings and leave his iCloud settings alone, will that stop the syncing service? I would think not as long as I don’t mess with the actual syncing/iCloud settings. The account remains active with no changes even if I reset the iPad, right?

If you still have access to the account you can factory reset the device and also log out of iCloud to make the device “new.”
