This topic seems to pop up often but never gets fully answered. I have changed my backup disk over the past years and ended up with 5 disks and different TM backups from different periods of time. Is there any way to integrate and merge the backups to one clean backup/TM access?

if you were to attempt to Copy and/or Merge these backups, you are likely to introduce an error, and wreck the integrity of All your backups. That is not good bargain. Backups need to be SIMPLE and solid as a rock.
Time machine will happily back up to multiple drives. every-other backup goes to every-other drive, and each drive is a complete stand-alone backup set starting the day it was created.
if you want a backup that goes really far back, just set aside the drive it lives on, and put it on a shelf or store it off site.
