How can I resolve an unauthorized $63.96 charge from Apple on my credit card?

On March 14, I was charged $63.96 by Apple on my credit card. I usually only pay $9.99 a month, so I called Apple to find out why I was suddenly charged $63.96. But they told me they couldn’t see the charge on their system. They said there’s no record of me making that purchase.

So how is it that the charge shows up on my credit card statement as coming from Apple if they have no record of it? I called my credit card company to explain the situation, and they told me it was a case of fraud. They said I need to get a new credit card issued, and that it would take 7 to 14 days—during which I won’t be able to use my card.

Is Apple’s security really this weak? I’m so disappointed—I can’t believe this happened.

Has your card been compromised by using it in a retail terminal that had a skimmer installed. Scammers use fake descriptions of well known companies in hopes you will not dispute the charge. Amazon is another common fake description seen on many cards that have been compromised.

If someone added your card to their device, it would be the bank of your card that would approve that action. Apple does not have your financial info to be able to approve or deny a card being added to a Wallet, but Apple does provide your bank the details of the user of the phone as well as billing address, so your bank has the appropriate information to approve or deny it being added. If that was the case, your bank failed you, not Apple.

Since you have 7 to 14 days to wait, you might want to read through this sort thread. It’ll explain why what your bank has done so far is not enough. You be charged again, probably before you even receive the replacement card with all new numbers.

The community member in the link above has had the card replaced 3 times and it’s still happening.

Or your credit card got compromised, which is why you're getting a new one.

Are you that careless with your credit card?

Your credit card company let it happen, not Apple, is their security that weak?

Why aren't you disappointed in them?

Why aren't you updated security features for your credit card?
