Why can't I receive text messages or track on Find My iPhone after not signing in to my Apple ID?

just got a new phone, the guy at store could not sign in to my Apple ID and had it emailed to me? But now my phone can’t receive text messages and when people text me it turns green. Also can’t track on find my IPhone from family members. Is this because I’m not signed into my Apple ID?

Hello!

Yes, iMessage and Find My need you to be signed into your Apple ID for them to work. Your messages turning green indicate the device is using RCS, MMS, or SMS to send text messages, which are all through your carrier. However, iMessage is over the internet, (and through Apple).
