How can I lock my son's iPhone for parental control?

I am unable to get the parental controls on my son's phone to truly work - he is somehow always able to get around the screentime controls (he is 13 for context). Is there a way to just totally lock the phone so he is unable to get into it while I have it in "lock" mode? This would make my life so much easier!!

thanks for the advice!

In my opinion this is a parenting issue. The young are often more in tune with technology than we parents think. If this were my son I would lay down the terms of use. If those terms are violated the iPhone would be simply taken away and banned from his use. A thirteen year old does not “need” a smartphone. Why does he have access to your iPhone in the first place? Expecting technology to do the parenting leads to failure.

When our children were teenagers we banned R rated movies being played at home. Of course they said they would go over to a friend’s house whose parents didn’t care what they watched. Our response was that we knew this but it didn't change what was allowed in our home, period.
