Unable to connect ERROR, (no data transferred)

PC HP Envy 700-230qe, MS Windows 10. Mac Air M3, 16 GB , 512 SSD. Thunderbolt wire w/usb adaptor for PC. Modem: Deco-551c, 1 GB internet (direct connection to PC). 200 GB ICloud storage. Anti Virus: Norton 360. Wifi & bluetooth active on both machines.

About 5 hrs invested with Apple phone support. No progress was made to transfer.

  1. restarted modem 1x, 2. restarted PC 2x. 3. restarted Mac 2x. 4. restarted migration assistant on both machines 5x. 5. disabled norton 3x, 6. uninstalled norton 1x, 7. reinstalled norton, 8. Tried without the thunderbolt wire.

Any suggestions beyond what has been tried would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone for the professional suggestions for this. Today I discovered that I still had the "windows defender" app. It was disabled, but hadn't been uninstalled until now. I will uninstall the Norton again, then attempt to transfer wifi wireless. I need all documents, photos, emails and contacts. From what I understand, most all of the apps will need to reinstalled on the mac after transfer. Will try to check to see if I'm in administrator mode, just to eliminate that possible issue.

Troubleshooting Data Transfer:

So, what exactly are you trying to transfer? You may not have the permission to do so, as a user. Ro a firewall may be getting in the way. As for getting this to connect, you might be able to do so using a crossover Ethernet cable. Security Software restricts access to your Mac through firewall protection, and is therefore something you should keep off of your Mac. When it comes to uninstalling it, you should use an uninstaller, if a n available option.

In that case you should probably start from the beginning and describe what you did in greater detail. I understand you would like to migrate a User Account from a legacy Windows PC, but something is preventing any progress.

The respective system details don't matter; a Mac will use any available connection — network, wired, or otherwise — in a relentless attempt to contact the other machine. The easiest way to connect the two Macs is wirelessly, through a wireless network. It may not be the fastest way to transfer data but it's the easiest. If that isn't working at all, most likely something else is preventing communication.

Use the following as a general purpose guide, which I'm sure you already know about: Transfer from PC to Mac with Migration Assistant - Apple Support. Then, describe what isn't happening.

Getting rid of any non-Apple "anti-virus" or "firewall" products is a fundamental prerequisite. Ensure its complete and utter eradication from the Mac. All those things are junk, but "Norton" in particular has nothing but a quarter century of failure to its name.

Perhaps.

They might transfer, but some softwares need a new license to be purchased, as it can only go in one device. So, for MS Office, just contact Microsoft and tell them that you’ve transferring to a new Mac, and they’ll likely grant you the permission for a transfer, because you OWN the license. But, only the Developer has the call in that; no one here on these forums does.
