Photos app in MacBook Pro not importing from iPhone

The Photos app in my MacBook Pro (14-inch, Nov 2024, Sequoia 15.3.2, M4 Pro) is not importing photos from my iPhone (iPhone 15, iOS 18.3.2). Both devices updated, restarted. When I connect the devices via USB-C, the Photos app does recognize the iPhone, prepares for importing, the content preview to be imported is loaded, but when I click Import all items or Import selected items, nothing happens.

Anybody facing the same issue? Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

How is your storage on the phone and on the Mac? Do you have at least 10% free space?

Have you tried using the app Image Capture that's in your Applications folder?

Have you re-started in Safe Mode? This bypasses certain potentially disruptive processes, and it often helps. Safe Mode is different for different computers, so see this:

Hi Richard. Thanks for your support.

Yes, there is plenty of space. In fact I’m using an external SSD as my Photos library folder. Navigating through other Q&As I’ve found that my external SSD should be formatted into APFS or Mac OS Extended (Journaled), which wasn’t. So I’m in this process now (already formatted the SSD to APFS using Disc Utility and now copying the library from the source into the SSD). After that I will try to import from the iPhone again. If it works, then problem solved. If it doesn’t, I will try your other suggestions. Let you know either way.

Cheers

Marcelo
