InCase lanyard for AirPods Pro 2: stiff short end breaks easily

I thought I'd buy the InCase lanyard for the AirPods Pro 2s as it had a nice hitching mechanism on the long end to attach to a loop. However, if you are tending to carrying the case in your pocket, beware that the short end of the lanyard is stiff and winds on itself quite easily, eventually breaking off, destroying its utility. Either always use it to hang off a loop, or not at all. A little disappointing as third-party products carried on the Apple site are generally reliable.
