Display dimming in sunlight

suspects it’s due to potential overheating. I can shade my cell with my hand - helps. Please Please. - how can that be turned off?

my cell becomes unusable. That’s quite bad.

Whenever I’m outside the screen is extremely dim! I can barely see anything on screen unless I provide shade with my hand or whatever! My iPhone 12 promax screen dims My iPhone 12 promax dims several layers down in bright light, even in the shade. Particularly annoying when using for GPS motorcycling on a bright day. Apple store did all they can, even replaced things. Help!

Why does my iPad Air dim in broad daylight? My iPad Air 5th Generation, iPadOS 18.5, dims in broad daylight, when I do not want it to. There seems to be nothing I can do; I have tried the Settings, reorienting the device, thinking one of the sensors/lenses are being overpowered, but nothing works. It is doing it even as I type this, dimming to the point of the letters being unreadably dim. Turning off Auto-Brightness DOES NOT make it stop. I live in the Desert Southwest north of Yuma, Arizona, a place that has a lot of bright sun this time of year. Can you help me make this infuriating experience end?

If your device temperature exceeds the normal operating range, you are right in that the display can dim or even go black. In that case I would suggest you turn your iPhone off, move it to a cooler environment (away from the direct sunlight) and let it cool down.

So, I basically have to live with an unusable cell phone - even in the shade it blacks out - and, certainly does not feel hot??

is there a way to see if the settings are correct? This just doesn’t seem right…especially in emergencies.
