Old people that forget their Apple Passwords

There needs to be a more personal way to help an old person get back their phone data when their iphone dies. Why not have a real person talk to them and their helper and work out a solution?

iPhone SE, iOS 18

Absolutely not. It is exactly that method where you could just call up someone to reset a password that led to so many data breaches and compromised devices on other platforms. That is why there is a waiting period when using Account Recovery. Information given to a person you call to reset the password immediately can all be gained easily through phishing messages, with many of them targeting the elderly.

What you can do is set up a Recovery Contact on the account first, so if the password is forgotten, then the Contact that the user set up would be able to assist. That way their personal information is safe and they are using someone they know for assistance.

The issue is her phone died and the old woman I am helping could not remember her password. We tried to process the 'reset password' with the phone number and email address, but it didn't work and we were given the message that the automated process intended for her protection will take 'days' and it gives no indication about how she will know when she can reset it. I believe that this problem could be resolved in minutes by a paid employee of Apple. I also believe that there are many people without jobs that could be gainfully employed by Apple to help in cases like this.
