Deleted photos still accessible in SM apps

Photos I deleted from my iPhone 11 are no longer visible in the photo app. Nor in the “recently deleted” folder. BUT, they ARE still offered within SM apps like WhatsApp, Signal, Line etc. so these apps are all finding those deleted photos. Problem - you can’t delete them from within those apps. And you can’t delete those hem from within the iPhone photos app because.. they don’t appear there! (It’s the same photos in several different SM apps, so they’re not the problem.)

(best guess: a bug whereby certain deletions are effective within the iPhone photos app, BUT the photos are not actually physically deleted, and for purposes of any app given permission to access photos, those photos remain flagged as live.)

so is there a fix???

It really isn’t a problem with those apps. Not least because they wouldn’t all have the same bug. However, I found the problem! The photos concerned were taken some years ago. The photos app lists photos by date created so these are hidden way back as the earliest in time. I thought I’d deleted them but I hadn’t - they were just effectively hidden above thousands of more recent photos. The SM apps list them by data acquired, so they appear quite recent.

after I found them hidden a the top of my scrolled library of photos, I deleted them and now the SM apps no longer find them. Sorted.
