To iOS 16, sure.
To iOS 17, iOS 18, or the upcoming iOS 26, no, you will need a newer or new iPhone.
That iPhone X has reached its limit.
iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone SE 2nd gen, or newer are required for iOS 17 and iOS 18.
iPhone SE 2nd gen, iPhone 11, and later, are the oldest supported on the upcoming iOS 26.
Sorry. That's not possible.
iOS 17 or 18 require an iPhone XR or newer.
If you need a phone capable of running anything higher than iOS 16.7.10, then you'll need to retire your iPhone X and buy a new or newer, iPhone which can run higher level iOS versions.
You do not download iOS 17 on an iPhone X. For the iPhone X, iOS 16 is the end of the line.

Then you have a serious problem because that is not possible.

You may need and even want to, but you can't do so. If you need a higher iOS version than 16.7.11, then you need a new or newer iPhone.
My I phone has a account on it that shone there and I’m logged in to a Mac I don’t have one
Huh? Your sentence doesn't make much sense and I'm not sure what this has to do with installing iOS 17 on an iPhone X?

iPhones do not have separate accounts. There’s only one account.
Whatever text you’re referencing is confused or confusing.
If this is a mail message about a login on some service, it probably also mis-locates you, in addition to mis-identifying what you’re using to log into the service.

You cannot install iOS 17 on an iPhone X even if you do iOS updates with the aid of a Mac.

Re: “”I want to update my iPhone X to iOS 17”
You may want to do this, but you cannot do this. The iPhone X will never get iOS 17 or higher.
