Why can't I rename and relocate downloaded images on my new MacBook Air?

My old macbook air never had a problem like this new one... when I download an image, it won't allow me to change the name and location to save it.... why??

No these are files I'm creating myself from Canva and once I download it, it refuses to allow me to rename it and save it to my Desktop - it continues to default to Downloads.

I think you need to provide more detail.

What is stopping you from renaming the file or moving it?

How are you trying to do this?

How did you do this in the past?

What error message (if any) do you get when you try?

Does it happen in all applications? or specific ones?

You specifically say 'download', which implies online, but then go on to say they are your own images created in Canva. Assuming you're using the web version of Canva, I see there is an option to 'Download Image' which automatically goes to Downloads, just like any other downloaded file.

The alternative is to Ctrl-click on the image and use Save Image As... which uses the standard Save File... dialog and you can give any filename and location you like.

Are you saying that's not working for you?

Ok when I create a file in Canva for example, I then download the file which I can access at the top or sometimes it pops up automatically. So I go to the top and click on the title to edit, and I edit it. Then below, I usually choose to save it on my desktop so I can move it to a specific folder from there. However, after I change the file name and location to desktop, it goes back to the generic file name and downloads location. No matter what I try, it refuses to rename or relocate.

What you are suggesting above - I don't see any Save Image As option especially as most of these are documents as much as images.
