Circular burn mark on my macbook air 2024 screen upper left area.

I have a new macbook air - 2024. Recently, I noticed a circular, about 1.5 inches from the top edge of the screen and about 1.0 inches in from the left side of the screen appear. It looks like a cigarette burn but the diameter is larger - maybe 1 inch across. It is transparent and changes colors depending on the light. It is almost irridescent. I will include a screenshot. It is not a software issue, but hardware - It has not been dropped or had liquids splashed on it.

I contacted Apple support but the representative could not offer any advice other than for me to send it or go to an apple repair place. I have limited warranty from the purchase, but was told that it could cost $600.00 or more!!! What is it? Will it spread? Is this not an issue that Apple should cover- given that it has not been damaged by me? Is it a 'hot spot'? Help!

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 15.3

I'm pretty darned sure that's accidental physical damage to the LCD. I have never seen an LCD panel on any device fail spontaneously like that due to defects in materials.... And I've seen a LOT of damaged LCDs in my career...

Sorry, but you're going to have to pay to have the display replaced.

Next time, consider investing in AppleCare+.
