Siri doesn’t reply with voice

I’ve done all the double checks - settings are all marked to vocal response. Yet when I’m searching for my phone and I say “hey Siri” all I get is a bing bong sound and the phone lights up. This is not helpful when I’m looking for my phone. I used to be able to say “hey siri” and get a vocal response helping me to locate my phone.

I seem to not be alone in this. A response from Apple would be good here. This is relatively new. A bug in a recent update maybe?
