changed airtag battery but iphone will not recognize

i got a low battery alert for an airtag. i have changed the battery and with the battery out of airtag for over 5 minurtes. i have removed the airtag from my FIND MY. when I put the battery in and close the cover, it makes the beeping sound. BUT my iphone will not recognize the airtag.
