MacOs 15.4: how to click to select, then move an object by drag-and-drop?

Question

I am new to MacOs 15.4 and MacBook Air.

I want to click and select an object on the desktop (a new application) then drag and drop it to a new location (Applications folder).

When I attempt to select the new application, the system zooms in on its image, and will not allow me to drag and drop it at all.

Huh?

No, and control-click does not work, but thank you. I have successfully attempted to use option-click to select an object for drag-and-drop!

are you using control-click to highlight the object before dragging?
