Shared Albums Reduce Quality Without Warning

In Photos placing pictures in a shared album results in the application creating and holding a smaller lower quality version of that photo. If you take the photo from that album and drag it to the desktop, you get the low quality version with no warning. Or drag it into a regular album, and the low quality version sits in the regular album. Drag one photo into 3 shared albums and it makes 3 separate low quality photos. Drag a photo into the same shared album 3 times, and it makes 3 separate low quality photos. This is counter intuitive and frustrating.

This essentially forces you to make duplicate albums. If I want to have an album of my portfolio pictures, can create that album from original high quality photos. Then to have shared version, I must create another album. Any time I want to add or delete a photo from my portfolio, I must do it in both places.

I understand why this happens, to reduce storage and network use. But I don't want to do those at the cost of making low quality versions of my photos. Why can't I turn this off? Or allow me to share high quality normal albums in some other way.
