End of MAC OS updates for macbook pro with Intel processor

I'm using a macbook pro for iOS development with Intel processor (Intel Core i9 8-Core 2,3Ghz 15inch 2019). Currently I have a small damage on my display and now I try to find out if better repair it, or better targetting to buy a new macbook. Since I'm using it for iOS development the most important thing is to remain up to date with upcoming iOS SDKs and XCode releases, so the most important criteria for a decision here is: how long will my macbook still receive according updates? Is there a known end-of-updates-date for the Intel processors generically or at least for my devices model or is there a possibility to find this information somewhere?

Hello,

The most likely scenario is that patches for Intel units will continue until Autumn 2027, which would mark 7 years since the release of the final Intel machines. One should expect that each new release of macOS will be more restricted than the last when installed on older machines, until they are totally phased out. To be fair, Windows users are grappling with the same issue this year, as many units produced more than 7 years ago will not qualify for Windows 11.

As to the lifecycle, Apple generally supports a given macOS for three version cycles from its original publication, after which it no longer receives updates or app support, barring highly specific issues like the CPU scares of 2018 that require immediate attention. Otherwise, it is assumed that you as a consumer will replace the unit on or before EoS.

Hope this helps,
