How do I fix AirPods Max not detecting my head?

Hi, so it's been a year since I last used my airpods max I wanted to use them and I noticed that they no longer make sound I thought it was a speaker problem but I realized that it did not detect my head. So nothing worked I tried to make it ring with find my and when I put them on my head everything worked normally. now to use them I have to disconnect them, reset them, make them ring and then reconnect them but there is about a 1 in 30 chance of making them ring the rest of the time they are unusable. Does anyone have a solution to this? or tell me which part to change please? thanks in advance.

PS: it’s stuck on the 6A324 update I tried everything but I can’t update it.
