Why does saving PDFs in Chrome change files to TextEdit docs after macOS Sequoia 15.4 update?

I just updated to Sequoia 15.4 and this issue just began. If I try to save anything as a pdf in Chrome, it saves as a TextEdit document, and I am unable to open it as a pdf. The only way around it is if I do NOT change the file name when saving it. If I change the file name when saving, the file becomes a document only viewable through TextEdit.

My Chrome is updated and never faced this issue before. Is this bug fixable?

Is this just for PDF files created in Chrome? or all?

This sounds like more of an issue with your system that's set to open PDF files with TextEdit by default, instead of Preview or another PDF-capable app.

Check this by finding a .pdf file in the Finder, then use File -> Get Info...

About half way down the Info window it shows which app to 'Open with...'

If this is set to TextEdit, change it to Preview, then click the Change All... button to update the system to open all .pdf files with your preferred app.
