iTunes pre-ordered album not received

As all threads on this issue have been closed and are not allowing replies, I'm posting the solution for those who are having this issue: You have pre-ordered an album in iTunes and never received an email from Apple. The album is now released but you were never billed so it's not listed under your Purchased items. iTunes shows the album is purchased but does not allow you to download it.


Solution extracted from a long Apple support chat after repeating the above 3 times: Cancel the pre-order.

  1. Open the App Store app.
  2. Tap the account button or your photo at the top of the screen.
  3. Tap your name. You might need to sign in to your Apple Account.
  4. Tap Pre-Orders for pre-orders, or tap Arcade Games Coming Soon for Arcade games. If you don’t see Pre-Orders or Arcade Games Coming Soon, you don’t have any pre-orders.
  5. To cancel a pre-order, tap the item that you want to cancel, then follow the onscreen instructions.
  6. Go back to iTunes and buy the album as it's now available for purchase.
  7. Never pre-order an album again. So much for trying to support an artist with a pre-order.
