Camera app opens to a black screen after iOS 18.4

After installing the latest update to 18.4 on my 13 Pro Max, I’m having issues with my camera not initializing. The app opens up to a black screen, and I’m unable to take a picture. I’ve also noticed that occasionally it will take a picture but not save the image. The only workaround I found at the moment is to reboot the phone once or twice and it will work for a day or so. Anyone else having this type of problem? Hoping for some sort of solution. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Rather than a re-boot, have you tried a forced restart?

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

This is different from a simple Power Off. I had to continue holding the button down for while after the “Power Off” message came up.

It’s unlikely a software/iOS bug. I’d have your iPhone diagnosed by Apple. It can be done in person at an Apple Retail Store or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider. You can also contact Apple Support and request remote diagnostics.

Hi everyone! iPhone 12 Pro 256GB user here. Last week I had the same problem with the camera, while recording some videos in a circus show, the camera stopped working, showed a blank screen. Did a reset and looked like it came back to normal, but the camera app was freezing. I still had iOS 18.3.2. I read online that I should update to 18.4 and I did. It looked again like it went back to normal. Then today I wanted to take a picture, I noticed that the camera app started at 2x and it didn’t show the 0,5x 1x 2x options. Did a hard reset, went back to normal for like 30 secs then on Settings it showed an error message regarding the camera that apple wasn’t able to recognize it as a genuine part. Now it works but without the 0,5x option. It is a bit frustrating to be honest. This iPhone never had a service, didn’t fall and never had a problem till after iOS 18 (apparently). It would be great if apple would fix this, if it’s a bug.

I m having same issue. Thy ran diagnostics 3 times and after a month of to n fro conversation and escalating issue to higher level, thy said hardware issue. However thy know their software has problem, thy r making profit forcing iphone users to buy new camera hardware,

its their fault issuing faulty software and thy want to fix it with out money.
