"Cannot communicate with printer at this time"

I just updated to Sequoia 15.4 and my Mac can no longer print on my HP Pro Laser Jet MFP 283 printer: I can scan, I can Image Capture, and I can print from my iPhone and iPad. I can print from any of the HP apps like HP Smart. The printer shows up as being connected and ready. However, the printer doesn't show up using my iMac's System Settings - Printers and Scanners. If I try to add it manually using its IP address, or using File - Print from any app, returns an error "unable to communicate with the printer at this time". I have unplugged and restarted my Mac, the printer, and wireless router. I have ensured that all software and firmware is up to date. I have tried anything else I've found in the internet's all-encompassing wisdom. Nothing works, or even changes the behavior in any way. A little help here?
