Afrikaans keyboard removed on iOS – what happened?

I've noticed that the Afrikaans keyboard seems to have been removed from iOS in recent updates. I used to be able to select it easily in the keyboard settings, but it's no longer available.

Could someone from Apple or the community confirm whether this was an intentional change? And if so, is there any plan to bring it back or provide an alternative for Afrikaans speakers?

I'm using an iPhone 12 with iOS 18.3.1.

Any information or workaround would be appreciated. Thanks!

Apple has never provided an Afrikaans keyboard in iOS so far. You were probably using a 3rd party app, perhaps Swiftkey. If that's gone, download it again.

Nobody in these forums has any info about apple's plans, but you can ask them for the feature you want via

Thanks, Tom! That makes sense now. I must’ve been using a third-party keyboard like SwiftKey without realising it. After a recent update, all my keyboards disappeared, including the Afrikaans one. I’ll try reinstalling SwiftKey or Gboard and set it up again.
