Error code 2738 when installing Quicktime

Hello,
I downloaded Quicktime on my computer and got an error message when installing it The error message says: "Itune + Quicktime error installation package. Error code 2738.
Installation of Quicktime did not complete successfully. ITune requires Quicktime."
*Does anyone know what error code 2738 means and how to fix it*?
Thanks for your support!
Mike

It's usually trouble with your Visual Basic Script, Mike. (It's a lot rarer than it used to be a few years ago.)

In the course of your troubleshooting to date, have you worked through the following document?

[iTunes and QuickTime for Windows cannot be installed without Visual Basic Script (VBScript)|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1331]

Hi
I have the same problem with error code 2738.

First I downloaded the version af iTunes+Quicktime and made sure it was for a 64-bit windows. Result: error code 2738.

Today I have downloaded the latest version af iTunes+Quicktime (vers. 10) and tried installing. Result: error code 2738.

I have tried to register the VBScript engine again - with success.
Tried installation again. Result: error code 2738.

I have tried to uninstall all my apple-software, but when trying to uninstall Quicktime, I get the same message and error code 2738

So Quicktime is neither completely installed, and cannot be uninstalled.

I have tried Apples suggested troubleshooting with deleting the Temp-folders, but somehow I cannot delete my Temp-folders. Though I have no open applications.

I hope that you can help me. Now I have this brand new, great pc, but I cannot get my iTunes to work.

Regards, Lene

Withe a reclacitrant 2738, wcbncal's suggestion from the following post is worth a try. If you're using a non-English localisation of Windows, check the equivalent translation of the Microsoft page, just in case some of the locations in the commands ought to be named differently on your localisation:

Thank you so very much.
It worked! Now I have iTunes running. Super!

I tried out the link to Microsoft support site:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949140

I used the "Fix it"-program on the Microsoft support site, tried installation iTunes again - and bingo: it worked!

Ps. I am so sorry to hear and read about the earthquake in Christchurch. My partner and I visited your lovely and beautiful country in january, and our holiday started in Christchurch. Sorry to hear about so much damage, but very pleased that only very few people got injuired.

Lene

🙂 Excellent news, Lene.

I've actually been down in Christchurch for a few weeks now. Staying at my mother-in-law's house. Fortunately, she's in a modern house built on ancient riverbed (part of the River Styx meanders) rather than on old marsh, so she's missed all the unreinforced-masonry and liquefaction troubles that have caused the bulk of the damage in Greater Christchurch.

The aftershocks have been getting on her nerves a bit though, although it's been better since I got down here. The aftershocks are tapering off. But, that being said, I've still been feeling more earthquakes in the past few weeks than in all my previous life. That's something for a New Zealander to be able to say.

The following quake animation gives probably the best feel for what its been like:

Were you able to resolve the issue ?
If so, can you post the solution ?

"b noir" - Thanks a lot

I ran FixIt earlier on but it did not do any thing.

This is what I did and I am not sure which one fixed this ... but worked.

* Disabled UAC
* Ran the following for the link ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949140) - section -
"You are running a 64-bit version of the Windows operating system, and you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section while you are using the 32-bit scripting components"

Uninstalled the old factory(HP build) and installed iTune 10.x ... WORKS

Thanks again.
