Macbook Air 13" Retina 2020 battery run time is 1.5 hours only if watching a movie. 2.5 hours surfing. Battery info says "Normal" but over 1000 charges (of course, in 4 years 11 months since I bought it).

Considering that tariffs are coming, curious if now in April 2025, I should buy a new laptop (example: Macbook Air M4 512gb for $1199) or just replace the battery and hope the tariffs don't raise the price of a low end laptop to $2000!! Thanks.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 14.6

That's entirely up to you. How long the tariffs will actually last is open for debate. We'll just have to wait and see.

That said, the M4 MBA is a significant boost over the M1.

If your only complaint about your current machine is battery life, then you might just want to stick with having the battery replaced.

If you're hankering at all for more performance, you will not be disappointed with a new M4 MBA.
