LARGE SYSTEM DATA, Screen Recordings without my permission and hidden files.
Hello all, I would love and greatly appreciate it if you guys help me with a mystery. I am running a MacBook Pro 2, and it's about year and half old.
For almost a year now my system data, when I looked at it in storage settings kept saying it was 100's of GB's, and it it kept growing to the point there was no room on my computer (We are talking 550GBs)
I looked all over the internet for a solution but could not for the life of me find a solution. So I will post this for any others that may be experiencing the same issue.
So I manually searched in library files for files too large by right clicking and selecting "get info" to see the file size.
After doing this for a long time I found the "Group Containers" file. IT was the culprit at 500 something GBs.
So then I opened it and had to sift through all the other random group container files.
I finally stumbled upon THE file "group.com.apple.screencapture", which said 500 something GBs
In said file, there is another file called "Screenrecordings", in which I found 12 MAJOR screen recordings of my MacBook lasting anywhere from 19mins- 10HOURS. So I manually reviewed each recording for any important information. It was all waste so I deleted all the screen recordings and FINALLY released my fairly new MacBook of the tumor.
This was the search path:
Finder > Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library > GroupContainers > group.com.apple.screencapture > ScreenRecordings > and this is where all the files were.
The great mystery of all of this is why were entire days of work of me on my computer being screencaptured without my permission? And not saved onto my desktop? Am I under surveillance? Or did I simply press the wrong key combination that triggered this?
I don't know but I am hoping that a developer or something can help answer some questions I have here, and if there is any way I can prevent this from happening again please do tell. It is such a chore to manually delete these, and also creeps me out that entire days of work were being recorded.
