How do I fix notifications not showing on iPhone running iOS 18.0.4?

My notifications isn't showing even after updating ios 18.0.4 I have trouble getting notifications from the apps I downloaded even thought I've allowed the notifications to show and able to receive. I am not sure if there's a solution but it's been an ongoing problem for me it's frustrating missing out on stuff because of the notification bug.

1. Start with the Basics:

  • Check Silent Mode: Flip the switch on the side of your iPhone. Orange showing? You’re on silent. Flip it off.

  • Volume Check: Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics, crank up that alert volume.

2. Notification Settings (the real MVP):

  • Head to Settings > Notifications

  • Pick an app that’s being shady (like Messages or Mail).

  • Make sure:

  • Allow Notifications is toggled ON

  • Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners are all checked

    • Sounds and Badges are enabled

3. Focus Mode / Do Not Disturb:

This one hides stuff like a sneaky ninja.

  • Go to Settings > Focus

  • Check Do Not Disturb, Sleep, Work, etc.

  • Disable anything that’s scheduled or accidentally enabled

  • Under each Focus mode, tap Apps and People to make sure important stuff is allowed through

4. App-Specific Glitches:

Sometimes apps just need a little tough love.

  • Open the app (like WhatsApp or Mail)

  • Check its internal settings > notifications toggle

  • Also: try deleting and reinstalling the app if it’s still misbehaving

5. Background App Refresh:

Your phone might be trying to “save battery” at the worst possible time.

  • Settings > General > Background App Refresh

  • Toggle it ON for essential apps

6. Software Glitch? Reboot It:

The classic fix.

  • Hold volume up + side button → slide to power off

  • Wait a few beats, then turn it back on

7. Still Nothing? Reset Settings:

Let’s not burn it all down—just reset settings.

  • Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings

  • Doesn’t delete data, just resets preferences

8. Update Check:

You’re on 18.0.4, but hey—maybe 18.0.5 is already out?

  • Go to Settings > General > Software Update

If you’ve run through this gauntlet and still nothing? Hit up Apple Support. Could be a hardware issue or a deeper iOS bug.

Check this, first.

Or Use and customize the Action button on iPhone - Apple Support (IN)

Then please check the following.

Notification Preview when Screen is Locked, Notification Alerts, Notification OFF, and much more...

  1. To get Notifications when the Screen is locked see the pic below which is self-explanatory
  2. To turn ON notifications selectively for apps, go to Settings > Notifications > Scroll Down to the App and turn ON notifications... Change notification settings on iPhone - Apple Support (IN)
  3. Some apps have their own notification settings over and above the iOS notification settings: An example of Instagram Notification settings is given below
  4. Help for Notification Alerts --> No Notification Alerts - Apple Community
  5. For VIP email Alerts refer to the pic below
