keyboard backlighting in magic keyboard

Just brought the new Magic Keyboard which was recently launched with the new IPad Air M3 with function row key. After getting home figured out that the backlight feature has been removed from this model. Wanted to understand the logic of same. The whole purpose of getting the keyboard as an accessory for a portable device like iPad is to type in any situation be it in dark environment like night or on an airplane. Without the backlight the keys are impossible to use in dark environment . The feature is available on all other model of Magic Keyboard for IPad. What purpose has Apple achieve by removing the most basic required feature of a keyboard
