How do I make my MacBook Pro discoverable by Find My?

I have just inherited an iPhone 12 to replace my iPhone 8. How Wonderful! The Find My app on the phone has found my everything that the same app had from its iPhone 8 life, but cannot find my now elderly MacBook Pro (which still works well for me).

How to I make the MacBook discoverable by Find My?

Are they using the same Apple ID?


Is the MacBook powered on and connected to the Internet, with Wi-Fi turned on? It needs an Internet connection to report its location, and since it has no GPS receiver or equivalent, the main way it has to guess its current location is by comparing nearby WiFi SSID beacons to a crowd-sourced database of access point locations.
