“Find my” doesn't work with new AirPods second generation Pro, unless case is open

Just like the post says, when I open Find My, it only lets me connect, and therefore ping the AirPod Case when it’s open. I was under the strong impression that I was able to locate the case itself even when it was closed. In fact I’ve seen videos where they do exactly that. What happened?

I can see its location but can’t use the sound or locate feature. I even tested this out by holding my airpod case in my hand while attempting, but it still failed to work.

Can’t play sound to locate lost AirPods When I lost my AirPod Case with one earbud in it, I was not able to play a sound to it using Find My. When I finally found them, I tested this, and as far as I can tell the case needs to be open to be able to send a sound. Obviously, if it’s lost, the case is likely closed. Is there any way around this that would actually make the find my app useful for locating the AirPods?

airpod pro 2s case will not show in find my, AirPods will airpod pro 2s case will not show up in find my, have already turned off and turned on find my, reset the airpods and disconnected, and yes find my is enabled and they are enabled on my find my network, they were left outside of the case for a day and this started, the individual AirPods work and play sound works for them but the case will not show up at all.
