How to manually tag two distinct cats in a single photo on iPhone?

I have many pictures in my photo library with my two cats in them. They look very similar, but there are two distinctly different bodies/faces in the photo. If you bring up the information tab, they will both have a tag attached to them individually, identifying them as a cat, but only one circle/face tag in the lower left hand corner of the picture. Is there a way to add a second face tag to the picture so I can identify each cat? Thank you for your help.

It cannot be done on the iPhone, only on a Mac we can manually circle the individual faces and name them differently. On your iPhone you could use the caption to write the two names into the caption - left to right. then a search will find them. Or create your own albums (standard albums, not People and Pets albums) for each cat.

Really-- almost everything is easier in Photos on the Mac. One thing-- on a Mac you can use Keywords: Kit for one, Kat for the other (or whatever,) and then searches, even on the iPad and iPhone, will be better. In fact, it's so much better that I add Keywords for everyone already in a People album. Keywords and Captions are more robust, since they are recognized by any Image Viewer app, but Face Names work only in Photos. Our iPads are the perfect device for viewing or showing pictures, but the Mac is the place for fixing them up!

Thank you so much for your reply. For some reason the moderator changed my caption to say iPhone, but I was actually asking this question with regard to my iPad Air, although I assume the same answer applies? Those are some great suggestions as an alternative to being able to tag. I guess I'll have to switch to my Mac for this job. 😊 Thank you again!

Thank you Richard. Using the keywords and captions, as well as face tagging, is a great idea. I generally prefer using my Mac, but was actually using my iPad because it is the only device I have that has Apple Intelligence and the photo clean up feature (my MacBook Pro is old and slow with an Intel processor, and my iPhone is a 14 Pro Max). I guess I'll have to do the sorting, organizing, tagging, and keywording on my Mac, then editing on my iPad. Thanks for your help! 😊
