How do I change the audio input when something is plugged in on my iPhone?

My car doesn’t have Bluetooth so to listen to my phone I have to use an adaptor to plug a stereo jack into it. When my phone is plugged in it no longer recognizes its own microphone. I have to unplug it to use voice to text, Shazam no longer works, etc.

Hey Siri still works though so somehow that overrides whatever is wrong.

Is this a setting I can change or am I out of luck?

It sounds like you’re using the wrong adapter. If I remember correctly you need TRRS and you are probably using TRS. You can confirm with Apple Support.

If a newer car isn't in the near future, you should really consider upgrading to an aftermarket stereo that supports bluetooth (and possibly even CarPlay).

Failing that, there are lots of bluetooth aux adapters out there that will let you use bluetooth to connect to the aux input of the existing stereo.
