I'm not sure whether you are talking about using your MacBook Air as an AirPlay Receiver for AirPlay to Mac … or about using iPhone Mirroring.

Either way, your 2017 MacBook Air is too old to support the feature.

  • To act as an AirPlay Receiver, your MacBook Air would need to be from 2018 or later.
  • To support iPhone Mirroring, your MacBook Air would need to have an Apple Silicon processor or a T2 security chip, and be running Sequoia or later. It doesn't have either chip, and can't run anything higher than Monterey.

There might be third-party applications that you could buy for your Mac that would let it serve as an AirPlay screen for the iPhone. (Probably using AirPlay v1 protocol with effective resolution of 1920x1080 or less.). But the macOS AirPlay Receiver requires a more recent machine.
