Should I update my iPhone to iOS 18?

Hi, I wonder if someone could please advise me. I have hardly any knowledge about this UPDATING STUFF!

My mobile is currently on IOS version 17.7.2 and I have noticed that there is IOS 18 now. I'm a bit worried about updating to this as I've read there have been lots of issues with this version.

Will there be any more updates to the IOS version 17 or is 17.7.2 the last one?

Thanks in advance

You can update to the latest version of iOS 17 or you may upgrade to iOS 18.4.1. It’s your choice. iOS 17 will only receive security and safety updates.

iOS fixes multiple security issues. If you do mobile banking, I recommend updating to insure the safety and security of any future transactions.

Yes, some third party applications are still experiencing software bugs and require updating from the app’s development team. You may experience some bugs, but that’s normal with any software these days.

Some iPhone models do not have the necessary hardware to use iOS 18. What specific iPhone model do you use?

You won’t hear about the people who don’t have issues with iOS 18 because why would they talk about it? Their device works, so they’re happy.

But the few people (in proportion) who have issues, sometimes entirely coincidental (they appeared at the time the update was installed, but would have appeared anyways if there had been no update) need to voice their displeasure so they post/vent online.

Now a few hundred people doing this makes it seem as if though there’s an overall issue with iOS 18, but what about the millions of people who’ve updated but don’t post because everything works just fine?

But in the end, it’s your choice if you want to update or not.

You're welcome Gemma! Make sure you backup your iPhone before you do the update. And know that if you do have any issues, we're here to help.

One of the biggest changes you're going to find is your mailbox. When you first open it, things will be moved into categories. You can undo that if you don't like it by tapping the little circle at the top with 3 dots and tapping List View.

Passwords are now in an App called Passwords, which will be found on the last page of your home screen apps.

Photos offer much more customization, so you'll want to spend some time there.

And in Settings, the settings for most apps can be found by Opening Settings and at the bottom of the first page you'll see Apps. Tap Apps and find the app you want to change any setting for, like Phone or Camera there.

We aren't Apple here. This is a user to user only forum. Whether Apple will offer any security updates to iOS 17 going forward, we can't answer. I can tell you that millions upon millions upon millions are using iOS 18 on iPhone 12 without issue. Sure, there is always a subset of users who have issues with EVERY iOS update ever released. I've personally never had issues with iOS updates, however.

We can't tell you what you should do. But if you base your decisions on things you read on the internet, it's kind of like going to a hospital and seeing sick people, then believing everyone everywhere is sick too.
