External CD/DVD drive not working with Sequoia 15.4.1 update.

Recently updated my 2020 MacBook Pro (M1 chip) to Sequoia 15.4.1. Ever since, the third party external CD/DVD drive I use doesn't work. If I insert a disc, I can hear it spin for a few seconds, but then nothing happens (CD doesn't appear in Music, etc.).

Didn't have any issues with it before the update. Tried resetting the computer. Shut it down and left it off for a few minutes too. Don't see anything in Disk Utility when it's plugged in.

Anyone else aware of the issue/fixes?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 15.4

How is the drive connected exactly?

Go to System Settings ➜ Privacy & Security ➜ Files & Folders ➜ Music and make sure Removable Volumes is checked.

Also, go to Settings ➜ Privacy & Security ➜ Accessories ➜ Allow Accessories to Connect and make sure it's set to allow or ask.

Finally, make sure the disc that was inserted is an actual Music CD, anything else, like a DVD or Data disc will not appear in the Music App.

What other USB devices are connected to the USB-C to USB-A hub..?

Too many other bus powered usb devices, could be drawing power away form the CD/DVD drive.

Try plugging the CD/DVD drive directly into the Mac using a USB-C to USB-A adapter instead of the hub.

for some examples:

The hub I use regularly shows up (multiple USB 3.0s), but the CD drive doesn't.

I looked up that product and it has this:

"Wide Compatible. This external dvd cd drive is compatible with Windows 98 / SE / ME / XP / Vista / Windows /10/8/7, Mac OS (8.6 to 10.14). And perfect for PC, Laptop, Comprehensive Computer, Internal PC hard disk reader."

Maybe this text simply hasn't been updated in a while. But 10.14? I realize it worked on later MacOS you had but I am wondering why they simply don't say 15.4.1.

Also, after a MacOS update, sometimes one has to go into Settings to specifically allow external devices to connect.

Gotega claims to have 24/7 support so you might try contacting them directly. They also have some minimal online support suggestions for Macs: http://gotega-dvd.com/index.php?c=category&id=5#mac

I recently updated my 2023 Mac Book Pro to Sequoia 15.4.1 as well. I had an external DVD drive as the only item connected to it through USBC. I had used the drive for over a year without issue. I used it for a few days before updating and it worked. I updated a few days ago. Trying to use the drive last night but after inserting a DVD it just cycled endlessly without anything appearing in Finder or any errors. I took the DVD out, closed the tray, left it plugged into the laptop, and later noticed the drive would activate for a few seconds every few minutes. As though it was checking to see if disc had been inserted. Again, it was empty.

I was frustrated thinking the drive went bad, bought a different external DVD drive today, and having the exact same symptoms. I can only conclude it was something in the update.
