Cmd+Tab won't work on my iMac since macOS 15.4.1 update

I use Cmd+Tab all the time to switch between apps. Since i upgraded to MAC OS 15.4.1, this sequence works a few times then it quits. When I enter Cmd+Tab -- nothing. I've seen others with the same issue but older OS.

A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Login and test.

Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

Did you use your Mac while in Safe Mode or did you startup in Safe Mode then restart normally?

• Reinstalled macOS Sequoia -- same issue.

That will provide no useful function. The OS cannot be modified, so reinstalling will change nothing.

Erase All Content and Settings then create a new user and do not migrate or install anything can provide useful troubleshooting info.

• Removed all login items in System Settings, then restarted iMac -- same issue.

Login Items would not contain anything that would affect that function.

• Restarted. Cmd+Tab working. Used iMac off and on for four hours using multiple apps and data entry and using airdrop and visiting multiple websites on Safari -- keeping a log while trying to emulate a typical day.
• After four hours left desk to run errands.
• Logged on and Cmd+Tab not working.

Did you log out when you left your Mac, or just let it lock and you unlocked it?

• Other keyboard shortcuts working OK.
• hmmm ... puzzling
• So, in summary, Cmd+Tab seems to work after restart, but then fails for no apparent reason.

Are you using a third-party keyboard that has software to make it work?

Barney, thanks for the reply. Has not failed today. No idea why. In almost 20 years i've had four Macs and this is the first time for a problem like this to i am not familiar with the protocols. I was trying to follow suggestions of Apple Support website.

I did use the Mac while in Safe Mode.

I had not kept track of whether I logged out, or just let it lock -- doing so now.

Using Apple magic keyboard -- not third party. Have very few third party applications. I'm very careful using other apps and downloads.

Suspect problem may be using screen saver preview? Will try to test that.

That rings a bell. I now remember a post from early on in Sequoia about this issue. Someone thought it was linked to Screen Saver preview. I don't use a screen saver, but I did try setting it up and using the Preview, but I couldn't make cmd-tab fail.

I don't know how you can create a bug that only affects certain Macs, though the M4 may be unique in that regard. All of the popular reported problems with Sequoia I cannot replicate on my M1 Mini nor my M2 MacBook Pro.
