Dock Mail icon does not show red number of unread messages.

M2 and M4 minis both running Sequoia 15.4 but the M4 does not show the number of unread messages above the Dock icon.

I have restarted the app and also the computer and the Mail settings on both Macs are the same.

Any ideas?

Mac mini, macOS 15.4

Who said AI is rubbish?????!!!!!!

I just did a google search on a whim and instantly a load of AI suggestions appeared and the first one was . . .

AI Overview

If your Mac's Mail app isn't displaying the number of unread emails in the Dock, ensure "Badge application icon" is enabled in your Notification settings.

I discovered Mail notifications were "Off" and switching them on as shown below restored the magic number in the Dock!
