About two updates ago, photos on my iPhone 14 have developed a dark grey band, essentially losing part of the image because the affect has to be cropped.
The issue is random. The band does not appear when the image is on my phone, only when it is uploaded to Photos.
Even as a photographer I cannot explain this nonsense. Can anyone please help?

The idea is to find out if the problem is with the Library, with your account, or with caches and login items, and stuff like that. One of these steps may fix the problem, but their failure to work also helps figure out what's happening.

The first thought is a corrupt jpg. What does "only when it is uploaded to Photos" mean? Do you mean Photos on the phone, or maybe Photos on a Mac? In that case, is this with iCloud Photos? If so what does the image look like at iCloud.com? What is the storage situation at iCloud? What happens if you save to Files>iCloud Drive and open it on a Mac? Do you use "Optimize Storage" with iCloud? Can you "Revert" to original?
What do you mean by "Random?" What fraction of images? Are these edited, or not?
What is the storage situation on your phone? Or, if this is seen on a Mac, what is the storage situation on the Mac? What fraction of storage is free?

Images on my iPhone are downloaded to Photos — the app on my iMac. Images on the phone appear as they should. Only when they are downloaded to the computer do some appear with a dark band running through, as shown. iCloud is not involved and storage has nothing to do with this issue.
This issue has nothing to do with storage space, there's ample space on all drives and the phone.
Some photos are edited on iPhone; some are RAW images, some are normal jpg. They can be edited on iMac. Ratio of uncorrupted images to those with this annoying band is impossible to determine, it is a random problem. Sometimes five out of 30 images have this band, sometimes 1 out of 20.
