Missing Booklet Option in Preview

I recently purchased a new MacBook Air  with macOS Sequoia . When trying to print a PDF as a booklet using Preview, I noticed the booklet option is missing from the print dialog’s Layout settings. Here’s what I’ve tried:

  1. Steps to Reproduce:
    • Open a PDF in Preview.
    • Press ⌘ + P to open the Print dialog.
    • Under the Layout dropdown, there’s no "Booklet" checkbox or option.
    • Checked Pages per Sheet and other menus—nothing appears.

Are other users with macOS Sequoia 15 experiencing this?

The “Booklet” option in Preview on macOS Sequoia isn’t a built-in feature but one exposed by your printer’s driver rather than Preview itself  ; if you only see generic choices like “Any Printer” or “16 pages per sheet,” you’re almost certainly using the basic AirPrint driver, which doesn’t include booklet-imposition settings  . To restore booklet printing, open System Settings > Printers & Scanners, remove your existing printer, click Add, and in the Use (or Print Using) dropdown select the printer’s vendor-supplied driver instead of AirPrint  ; when you next open Preview’s Print dialog and look under Layout > Pages per Sheet, the Booklet checkbox should reappear at the bottom  . If your printer’s driver still won’t expose it, you can alternatively use apps like Adobe Acrobat Reader/Pro (Print → Layout → Booklet) or Microsoft Word (Print → Book Fold) to generate a booklet layout  .

Yes, I'm using the vendor-supplied print driver, not AirPrint. I added the Ricoh MP 5054 PS printer using its IP address and the LPD protocol, and selected the official driver provided by Ricoh during setup. This model does not support AirPrint, so the basic AirPrint driver was never used. As a workaround, I tried printing a booklet using Adobe Acrobat, which does offer that layout option. However, the print quality is significantly lower compared to printing the same PDF through Preview, even with similar settings like two pages per sheet.

We can see your responses to other people. No need to repeat the same response to everybody.

What print driver were you using before on the other Mac?

It's possible Ricoh changed that in the driver created for Sequoia.

Thank you for your response.

I added the Ricoh MP 5054 PS printer via IP and installed the latest official drivers for macOS Sequoia, selecting the vendor-supplied driver (not AirPrint) under the “Use” option. However, the Booklet option still doesn’t appear in Preview’s print dialog.

As a workaround, I tried Adobe Acrobat Reader, which does support booklet printing, but print quality is significantly lower compared to Preview.

In short, Preview doesn’t show the Booklet option, and Acrobat’s output quality is too poor to use. I’d appreciate any suggestions to solve either issue.
