Why can't XF-HEVC S 422 10bit video play smoothly in Quicktime and FCPX on Mac Studio M4 Max?

Hi , I just bought a Mac Studio M4 Max and used it with my Canon R5 Mark ii for video editing. I found that some video formats cause playback lag and audio and video out of sync. I made sure to install the corresponding plug-in, but the problem still cannot be solved. I hope to find a solution in the forum, thank you.

1. Test platform:

1.Mac Studio M4 Max/OS 15.4.1

2.MacBook Pro M4 / OS 15.4.1

2. Camera used: Canon Eos R5 Mark II

Video Format:

1.8K RAW

2.XF-HEVC S 422 10bit

3.XF-HEVC S 420 10bit

question:

1. When using Quicktime to play the above video formats, only XF-HEVC S 422 10bit cannot be played smoothly, the picture is stuck and the audio and video are out of sync.

2. Use Fcpx 11.1 to edit the above video formats. Only XF-HEVC S 422 10bit cannot be previewed normally (preview freezes). It needs to be rendered before it can be previewed normally.

3. Use Fcpx to export all the above videos. The export format is the default export file and select H264. After exporting, all files will freeze and the audio and video will be out of sync when played using quicktime.

4. When using the 8K H264 file exported by the old machine to play it on the new machine using Quicktime, the video and audio will still be out of sync.

5. The h264 files exported by the new and old machines can be played normally on PC.

Excuse me:

1. I see in the specification that XF-HEVC will be supported in 2023, but why can't it be played normally?

2.FCPX exports H264 videos by default. Why can't it be played normally on the new machine?

Please confirm the above questions, thank you.

It also plays well in FCP, even when the Viewer is set to Better Quality (rather than Better Performance).

You may want to run Etrecheck and post its full report here using the "additional text" button below. Often problems may be due to interference by some third party software (cleaners or antivirus are notorious, and so is... chrome (or rather the background "keystone" processes that it installs and run continuously)).

FWIW, I downloaded your XF-HEVC S 422 10bit video file, and it played back correctly in my Mac (M4 Pro MacBook Pro) using Quicktime Player in 15.4.1.

The H264 file is stuttering, probably because that is how it ended up due to the problems decoding the original on your machine.

I will try next in FCP. By the way, it may be useful to repost this question in the FCP forum, as there are several regular contributors there who know their way around cameras, codecs and all that.
