How can I activate 'Optimized Battery Charging' on iPhone?

The reason I’m starting a new thread is when I respond in an existing thread I can never find it again or any of the responses to me that I get emails about.

Three weeks iPhone 16 Pro plug it in 9 PM unplug it 6 AM every night for three weeks in the same place still not optimized battery charging what do I do?

To be clear, you are not using a Charge Limit, is that correct?

For Optimized Charging:

  • The plug in time does not matter, it is the time when removed from charger as long as there is at least 5 hours in between.
  • It does need at least 14 days of consistent activity to begin using Optimized Charging. Any variations will lengthen that time.
  • It will only work in a familiar place, such as Home or Work, so Location information must be made available. The 3 places to check to make sure they are activated are:

1- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and turn on Location Services.

2- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services and turn on System Customization.

3- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations and turn on Significant Locations.

What a fantastic response, thank you. No I am not using a charge limit. I don’t need to leave it plugged in all night but only for five hours to do that you say… did not know that thank you…I’ll have to do it at one in the morning, but I’m usually awake around there anyway to go Pee because I’m an older man and you know how that is maybe 😆

I do.......

It is the time taken off the charger that matters. You will want to leave it plugged in over night and only take it off the charger in the morning when you normally wake up. The noted 5 hours is the just the minimum needed to be recognized as an overnight charge. Also make sure you have those 3 location settings turned on.

I thought it was two weeks. That’s what most information I’ve seen said, I guess I’ll wait another week. That’ll be one month. Thank you for responding.

Yes, it charges to 100% from around 40% in less than two hours so it sits at 100% all night.

Per the above, I have learned it doesn’t matter what time I plug it in as long as it is five hours to the time I unplug it.

Leave it plugged in all night. Things will go much smoother and will work the way they are supposed to. Leaving it plugged in causes no harm to the iPhone, charger or causes your electric bill to go up. There is literally no reason to turn the device off. If you do feel it’s necessary, please voice your concerns so they can be addressed. 😀

Thank you, I can find the thread. I just can’t find my post in it. Unlike every other message board I’ve ever used which I’ve used daily and dozens for over 10 maybe 15 years, when I respond in a thread, I look for it at the end of the thread, but I do not see it. What am I doing wrong?

Got it. The default sort order for the forum is, I think, "Upvotes." Most of us agree it's not helpful. If you change it to "Oldest," you should see the type of behavior you're used to. I think starting a new thread was probably a good idea regardless.

Go to the top of the page, just under the lower right of your original post. You'll see "Sort by." Change it to "Oldest."

Lots of people (also) have trouble finding their previous posts, too.

By the way, everybody, for a very long time I was able to have the video not muted when it started on my camera app, but now it’s muted when the video starts and there’s nothing I can find to fix that, auto-play-motion does not fix that.

By "auto-play-motion" do you mean "Live Photo?" If that's not what you meant, try turning Live Photo off.

Tried that it doesn’t work, are you able to have your videos on your camera app start automatically and be unmuted both ?

I think perhaps I misunderstood the question. I thought you were trying to have a video running in the background with sound while taking a picture with the camera.

In order to start recording a video in the Camear app, I have to tap the record button. I don't know of any way to have it start recording automatically.
