Replacement for Skype for Digital-to-Landline Calls?
Microsoft has done it. They have killed a service I depend on. Can anyone recommend a service that will help with international digital to land line calls?
Here's the situation:
These days I am spending a bunch of time in a hilltop Italian village with unreliable cell service but very good internet access. Skype provided a service that was both reliable and cost effective for using the internet connection to reach my U.S. bank and other places with land lines. I don't need to do this often enough for a subscription. Paying on a per-call basis was great. Now, no more.
I just tried Google Voice. I learned that when calling a land line, it uses my cell service (which is unreliable here) to make the call. Of course, in my most recent conversation, the call dropped just as we were getting to the heart of the matter.
Does anyone know of a service which will help me make digital-to-land line calls and, like Skype, pay on a per call basis? If not, can you recommend one which provides a low subscription rate?
Thanks much!
