Suspicious Apple text message

Your APPLE id was recently used at 'APPLE ST0RE' for 697.66 USD paid by APPLE*Pay, if it's not you call 18***428, to cancel this charge. I received this text message this morning and I wonder if this is legitimate or if I was hacked. Can anyone explain what I should do?

Good job in identifying and questioning that attempted scam.

Some key points in a scam:

  1. That message never mentioned you by name.
  2. That phone number directs you to a scammer who is (most likely) working in an organized scam call center in another country.
  3. You were not hacked. Your contact details were provided to the scammers by privacy breaching services that you may have used.

That’s all the evidence you need to block, report and delete the message.

Again, good job in identifying that scam and questioning the message.

In closing:
