A friend's iPhone 16E was locked on the Apple logo with about half the thermometer bar loaded. MacBook Pro didn't see it in the finder, but it was detected by Mac mini. Downloaded the software to update, but it displayed the message below after partially loading and now displays the logo with empty thermometer bar. Anyone know where it needs to be kicked? TIA.

Thanks for your response. Terrific! Glad I attached the screenshot so you know it's legitimate. I have AppleCare+ on the mini, but it's not my phone. It was just obtained a short time ago, so maybe it needs to go back to whoever supplied it. Perhaps AppleCare would at least translate the error message for me, or do you have any suggestions?

Yes your friend should start there and if that doesn't work they can go to the Apple store and have the people at the Genius bar take a look.
To make a long story short, I think it was "this iPhone can't be updated" which is what I got when I attempted a second update. I did a restore and we are back to the beginning, but it's not locked at least. Thanks for the input.
