SD Card not recognized unless MacBook M2 Pro Sequoia 15.3.2 is restarted

Hello,

I’m using a MacBook Pro with the M2 Pro chip running macOS Sonoma 15.3.2 (build 24D81). My Mac doesn’t recognize any SD cards when inserted — including a Samsung EVO Plus and several others I’ve tested, using different adapters.

The only workaround I’ve found is restarting the MacBook with the SD card already inserted. After that, it appears and works fine. But if I eject and reinsert the card, macOS doesn’t detect it anymore — until I reboot again.

Has anyone encountered this issue? Is there a known solution or workaround?

Thank you in advance!

Does Disk Utility see the physical SD card? Within Disk Utility you may need to click "View" and select "Show All Devices" before the physical drives appear on the left pane of Disk Utility.

Since this is an M-series laptop, try changing the Privacy & Security System Settings for "Allow accessories to connect" to "Automatically when unlocked" to see if that makes any difference. I have found that macOS may not always prompt the user for confirmation when connecting accessories. Configuring this setting to this value really should not affect your security at all since you are likely to click yes/confirm anyway when connecting the device.

I have the same problem , SD card only show when the Mac is rebooted with the card inserted. If inserted after boot , it does not show on the desktop / finder or disk utility. I have tried all the "Accessories allow to connect" options, and all the SD cards i can find, but nope it only will show if i reboot with the card in. I think this started since it did clean install a few weeks back. An External reader works fine.

I’ve already tried that — I mentioned earlier that Disk Utility doesn’t show the card at all after reinserting it. It used to work just fine before, but for some reason it suddenly stopped behaving as expected. I feel like you’re not hearing me: I’ve already tried multiple cards, multiple readers, and checked Disk Utility — the SD card simply doesn’t show up unless I reboot with it already inserted.
